As of Sunday, April, 26, 2009 there were five eggs in the swans' nest. Frequently both swans are sitting on the nest, side-by-side.
We should have cygnets by the First of June. They will stay in the nest for one day and then begin swimming with their parents. Hopefully they will immediately become accustomed to being fed by humans in the compound.

Jack and Jill

"Jack and Jill", names chosen by the Ponds Committee, have been very busy this spring. They built a nest in the reeds to the left of the new shed, fairly safe from predators but clearly visible from the far side of the lake. See the movies and pictures of building the nest.

On April 24, 2009 Jill laid her first egg, with a second on the 25tha and more to follow. See pictures of the nest with the eggs.

New Swans

As of the late fall, we have two new swans for Foxboro. So far they have not been named. They are wintering at the pens in New Hamburg.

The Ponds Committee and swankeeppers have had meetings about a shelter for the swans at Foxboro. It would provide year-round protection from predators and weather.
